American Idol fans demand Katy Perry is 'permanently replaced' by Alanis Morissette

American Idol fans have turned on long-time judge Katy Perry, and have demanded she be replaced by a new guest judge.

Katy, who was in the UK to perform at the King's Coronation, was replaced by Ironic singer while she appeared at the historic event.

Meanwhile, Lionel Richie, who is also a judge on American Idol and was invited to perform for King Charles, was replaced by British pop star Ed Sheeran.

The shake-up didn't phase fans in the slightest, with the majority of online fans begging producers to make the change a permanent one.

""Best judges! @lukebryan @edsheeran @Alanis, American Idol viewers are lucky today," one fan tweeted.

A second excitedly wrote: "Watching American Idol. Alanis Morissette is still so friggin cool after all these years. jagged little pill one of my all-time fave albums."

"It will be SOOOOOO nice watching Idol tonight without having to hold the remote so I can 'MUTE' Perry and Richie every time they open their mouths! Now. change those two judges out PERMANENTLY!" a third demanded.

A fourth chimed in, adding: "Alanis has been killing it as a judge and mentor!"

During her time on American Idol, Katy has repeatedly faced backlash from fans. Sources told Radar that producers won't rule out firing the Fireworks singer due to her "behaviour" and "rude and condescending" comments.

"Katy has come under fire for harsh comments in the past, and now fans are upset over the way she humiliated a singing duo," the insider said.

"She demanded they perform before they'd had a chance to rehearse and then blasted their work as 'underwhelming' in front of a national audience!"

The speculation came out after Katy was slammed for mum-shaming talented auditionee Sara Beth Lieb who eventually quit the show.

Sara made a TikTok addressing the drama after leaving the show. She said in the clip: "At the start of my audition before I sang, I mentioned that I had three children and was a young mother, and Katy Perry made a joke that wasn't super kind.

Sara admitted she was hurt by Katy's comment (ABC)

“I don’t have too much to say on my feelings about it because it’s probably pretty self-explanatory."

She added: “It was embarrassing to have that on TV. And it was hurtful and, you know, that’s that.”

“I did want to take this opportunity to say that I think that women supporting and uplifting other women is so cool, and I think that mom-shaming is super lame.

“I think that it's hard enough to be a mom and it's hard enough to be a woman," she concluded.
