American Girl Doll is honouring healthcare workers amid the coronaviruspandemic with a new #ThankYouHeroes scrubs outfit.
The $24 limited-edition outfit includes pink scrub pants, a colourful paint-splatter top, slip-on shoes and a face mask.
In addition to teaching children about the heroes working on the front lines, the outfit will also benefit the children of first responders, as the doll company will donate one doll craft activity book, up to a total retail value of $135,000, to the First Responders Children’s Foundation for every outfit sold.
“Partnering with First Responders Children’s Foundation enables us to support the children of these heroes and provide a platform to recognise their dedication and service,” said general manager Jamie Cygielman.
The scrubs outfit is not the only way for children to dress their dolls in masks, however, as the company also released an instructional video explaining how to make a doll-sized mask on its website and social media.
The Mattel subsidiary, which joined other toy companies including Barbie and Fisher-Price in creating #ThankYouHeroes programs, will also be hosting a Heroes with Heart contest to honour healthcare and essential workers.
Those who want to nominate a hero in their life can submit a photo and a 250-word description of their hero’s occupation and how they’re helping the community through 26 June.
The five winners will receive a free American Girl Doll and outfit, as well as a $200 gift card to give to the person who nominated them.
The American Girl Doll scrubs outfit is currently available to preorder now on the company’s website and is expected to ship in August.
