American fast food chain Wendy's have said that they're "actively engaging in discussions" to open up their first franchise in Northern Ireland.
It comes after the restaurant - which is known for its square burgers - opened its doors in the UK this summer, with the first franchise being launched in Reading. Since then, the company has opened 10 restaurants across the UK.
Today, Wendy's has announced plans to build its UK presence by seeking new franchise partners across the UK and opening up to 50 restaurants in 2022 - with the prospect of restaurants in Northern Ireland.
In a statement released today, the company said that it was "actively engaging in discussions with franchise partners to rapidly grow and scale its brand presence in Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland."
This means that we might see a Wendy's restaurant, drive-thru or delivery kitchen in Northern Ireland in the near future, offering customers access to the likes of the square burger, the Baconator, the Dave’s Single and the Spicy Chicken Sandwich.
Abigail Pringle, Wendy’s President, International and Chief Development Officer said, “We set a goal to enter the United Kingdom this year with five Company owned and operated restaurants, and we’ve delivered. We’ve also welcomed our first franchisee, REEF, that has opened five delivery kitchens to date. We have seen incredible success that outperformed our expectations, and it’s clear to us that customers are loving our fresh, high-quality food. Now, it’s time to hit the accelerator to bring more Wendy’s to more British customers across the country.”
Wendy’s was founded in 1969 by Dave Thomas in Columbus, Ohio. Dave built his business on the premise, “Quality is our Recipe”, which remains the guiding principle throughout the Wendy’s system.
