Newcastle's Norwegian import Marie Dolvik Markussen declared on Wednesday she was here to score goals for the Jets as the club announced they had also signed American Elizabeth Eddy.
The Jets have not had international players on their roster for the past two seasons, in which they have finished last (2019-20) and second-last (2020-21), but coach Ash Wilson hoped the overseas pair's inclusion could provide an X factor as they eyed a return to finals football.
Newcastle open their 2021-22 A-League Women's campaign against Sydney at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium on Saturday before hosting newcomers Wellington Phoenix at McDonald Jones Stadium on December 10.
The Jets' final third has proven a cause for concern in the past couple of seasons but Wilson believed the addition of Dolvik Markussen and Eddy, an experienced midfielder, can spark Newcastle's attack.
Dolvik Markussen arrived in Australia two-and-a-half weeks ago after helping Valerenga win the Norway Women's Cup by scoring in the 2-1 victory over Sanviken.
"I think it's going to be good; hopefully I can add something up there," Dolvik Markussen said. "I just want to help the team, and to score some goals and be a positive input for the team off and on the field."
The 24-year-old forward has been eased into training since joining the Jets and has not played in any of their trial matches.
A change in surface from synthetic pitches in Norway to turf in Australia has caused some heel issues for the Norwegian international but she is hoping to have some impact against the Sky Blues.
"I've been out for a little bit now but am slowly getting back into it, so maybe on the weekend we will see if I get some playing time," Dolvik Markussen said on Wednesday.
She was otherwise embracing the new experience, keen to continue developing as a footballer.
"It's been really good and there's good quality and they've played some good matches and it looks really promising," Dolvik Markussen said.
"The league looks good, and fun, and many people have said so many good things about it.
"I just want to try to get some good games and keep on building. It's a good league, so it will help me a lot."
Eddy comes to Newcastle on a loan deal from National Women's Soccer League side Gotham FC in New York.
The 30-year-old also recently spent time playing in the top level of Sweden for Vittsjo GIK.
The American said the move to Australia was one she had been eyeing for some time and believed it could be "one of the most impactful seasons of my life".
"This season with the Jets, I want to win - win on the field and win off the field," Eddy said.
Wilson described Eddy as "a competitive player who is not only technically gifted but has a strong work rate and versatility".
"She loves to contribute in attack and that suits the way we want our team to play," Wilson said. "I think the fans will love her competitive mentality."
