American Doctor In Gaza Describes Horrific Conditions Amid Conflict

A ship carrying aid sails off the shore of Gaza, as seen from central Gaza Strip

Dr. Adam Hammoui, a former U.S. Army combat trauma surgeon with experience in Iraq, is currently one of the few American doctors working inside Gaza. Despite the volatile power situation, Dr. Hammoui has been stationed in Qanunis, near Raqqa, for nearly three weeks, providing crucial medical care amidst ongoing conflict.

Dr. Hammoui reports that trauma patients, including children, make up the majority of cases seen at the hospital. Many civilians are being injured by airstrikes while going about their daily lives, with little warning before the attacks occur.

Comparing Gaza to other war zones he has worked in, Dr. Hammoui notes the indiscriminate destruction he has witnessed, where entire communities are targeted without regard for combatant status. The level of devastation in Gaza surpasses what he has previously experienced, with widespread destruction of homes, businesses, and infrastructure.

Dr. Hammoui has called for a ceasefire and urged the U.S. to halt arms sales to Israel in light of the ongoing conflict. While President Biden has stated that offensive weapons will not be supplied if an all-out offensive occurs in Rafah, Dr. Hammoui emphasizes the urgent need to prevent further civilian casualties caused by the use of weapons of war.

As a frontline witness to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, Dr. Hammoui stresses the importance of immediate action to protect civilian lives and prevent further devastation. His insights shed light on the urgent need for international intervention to address the escalating conflict and ensure the safety and well-being of all those affected.
