American billionaire Todd Boehly 'pondering Chelsea and Tottenham takeover bids'

Todd Boehly, the American billionaire, is reportedly considering extending his growing portfolio with the purchase of a Premier League giant - and has targeted Chelsea or Tottenham .

Boehly owns a 20 per cent stake in Major League Baseball outfit Los Angeles Dodgers and is looking to become the latest Stateside businessman to own shares in an English top-flight team.

It has been claimed by the Evening Standard that the 46-year-old has turned his sights to the two London clubs.

The tycoon - who studied at the London School of Economics - is backed by his private investment firm Eldridge Industries, which deals in real estate, insurance and sport.

Roman Abramovich has owned Chelsea since 2003, when he acquired it from Ken Bates, and is believed to have invested around £1.13 billion into the club.

It is understood that the Russian is open to offers for the club after being denied entry to the UK over a diplomatic row, but values the club at over £2.5bn.

Britain's richest man Sir Jim Ratcliffe has already failed with a bid to purchase the Stamford Bridge giants - and Boehly isn't just focusing his attention on the west Londoners.

Tottenham are also on his agenda but could be worth even more than Chelsea after reaching last season's Champions League final and building their brand new stadium.

Boehly is yet to comment on the rumours but should he prove successful, he would join a growing list of Americans who have an affiliation with a Premier League club.

A number of the Big Six are owned by Americans including Stan Kroenke's Arsenal , John W.Henry's Liverpool and the Glazer family's Manchester United .
