An American Airlines plane smashed into an airport shuttle bus on a runway leaving five injured.
The A321 plane was being towed from a gate to a remove parking location when the aircraft collided with a bus transporting passengers between terminals at Los Angeles International Airport on Friday evening.
The horror crash happened around 10pm as emergency services rushed to the scene to treat injured passengers.
Los Angeles World Airports, the governing body for LAX, said in a statement: "The aircraft that was being towed from a gate to a remote parking location made physical contact with a bus traveling on the south side of the LAX airfield.
"Members of the Los Angeles Fire Department responded and treated about five people at the scene. There is no major operational disruption at LAX.”
Five people were treated for their injuries with four taken to hospital including the shuttle bus driver who was said to be in a fair condition.
The shuttle bus' windshield was badly damaged during the horror crash and suffered extensive damage while a large skid mark from the plane's tire was also visible.
According to authorities, the driver of the plane was in a moderate condition.
There was one person on the plane who was treated for their injuries.
LAX airport said in a tweet: "A jet being towed tonight from a gate to a parking area made contact with a shuttle bus, resulting in injuries to about 5 people.
"We thank our partners for quickly responding and treating passengers from the bus. Other LAX operations remain normal."
The cause of the crash is currently being investigated by authorities.
The incident comes just weeks after a near-fatal plane crash was avoided last-minute at New York's JFK airport.
An air traffic controller came to the rescue after a plane preparing to take off nearly collided with an aircraft that was crossing the runway.
The controller shouted in an audio recording: "(Expletive)! Delta 1943, cancel takeoff clearance! Delta 1943, cancel takeoff clearance!" when he noticed the other plane, operated by American Airlines, crossing in front.
The recording was made by LiveATC, a website that monitors and posts flight communications at a New York airport on February 10.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the Delta Air Lines' departing Boeing 737 plane came to a safe stop on the John F. Kennedy International Airport runway.
