Amelia Bambridge latest: Body of missing backpacker found at sea in Cambodia, police say

The body of missing backpacker Amelia Bambridge has been found at see more than 30 miles from where she went missing, according to Cambodian police.

Ms Bambridge from Worthing, West Sussex, was last seen on the island of Koh Rong late on October 23.

She was reported missing after staff at Police Beach, a private venue on the island, found her purple rucksack containing her purse, phone and bank cards the following morning.

Her body was found near another island, Koh Chhlam, close to Cambodia's maritime border with Thailand.

The Facebook page of Cambodia's deputy navy chief also reported the discovery.

Her relatives had visited the island, while drones and thermal imaging cameras assisted with the search.

A statement from the Lucie Blackman Trust, which supports families with relatives missing abroad said: "We are aware of the very tragic news from Cambodia. Amelia Bambridge's body has been found at sea.

"We are assisting her family."

About 150 volunteers including divers, navy personnel and visitors were involved in the search, in addition to police officers.

Six men who work at restaurants, hotels and guest houses on the island were questioned by police and released without charge on Tuesday evening.

Officials said the men were taken into custody because of complaints by Western tourists that they had acted badly towards visiting women.
