One preseason battle that was fun to watch with the Vikings was for the RB3 spot between Ameer Abdullah and Mike Boone.
According to the team’s updated depth chart heading into the regular season, Abdullah won the battle.
Abdullah is listed third on the depth chart behind Dalvin Cook and Alexander Mattison, and above Boone, who had 196 rushing yards and averaged 4.8 yards per carry in preseason.
This might not seem significant, but considering the fact Cook has missed 17 of 32 games to start his career, the Vikings third running back could very well play a big part in this team’s offense.
Abdullah was a heavy favorite to be a roster lock considering his ability in the return game. He’s listed as the team’s kick returner and punt returner on the depth chart. This really speaks to how well Boone did in preseason to earn a spot as a fourth running back, when that doesn’t always happen.
