Ambulance worker takes family on mini-break with a difference during coronavirus crisis

A hardworking ambulance technician treated her family to a mini break with a difference after their trip was cancelled due to coronavirus.

Mum Natalie Hill, husband Sammy, and their kids Ryley, seven, and Leyton, four, enjoyed an overnight camping trip in their garden.

They were supposed to visit  an eco camping site in Perthshire on March 27 so Natalie organised a holiday at their Symington home instead.

The 34-year-old who has been busy responding to emergency calls amid the Covid-19 crisis didn’t want to let her children down.

Natalie  who is based at Ayr ambulance station, said they made their “own wee self isolation glamping night.”

They built a fire and feasted on hotdogs and marshmallows. Dog Floyd came too.

Natalie said: “We love camping. I didn’t want to disappoint Ryley and Leyton. I thought: ‘we can do our own' and set up the big tent in the garden. The children loved it - they were so hyper running around laughing and screaming. Even though it was in the garden we felt as if we were somewhere else.  We stayed out all night until 7am. We had hot water bottles and loads of covers."

Natalie was also due to go away for another trip recently with  former boxer Sammy, 34, who works at Spirit, to celebrate when she became his girlfriend. The pair have been together since the age of  13 when they both attended Ayr Academy.

Every year the couple mark their getting together date and their wedding anniversary.

Natalie said: “On March 26 it was 21 years since we started going out. We were childhood sweethearts and have been together since we were 13. We spoil ourselves with two anniversaries."

Natalie said: “My husband and I had arranged to go and stay in a snug. We thought we would take the kids somewhere too and booked a Kata tent for us all. We were there last year and it was amazing. Obviously with the coronavirus we had to cancel.”
