Ambulance overturns on Ayrshire road while racing to emergency call

An ambulance dramatically overturned on an East Ayrshire road whilst on route to a 999 call last night.

The emergency vehicle was racing to an incident when it flipped onto its side between Auchinleck and Cumnock.

The horror crash happened at Templeton Roundabout outside Auchinleck on the A76 around 8.40pm.

It is thought the road was icy at the time of the crash.

A picture from the scene shows the vehicle completely on one side with blue lights still flashing.

One paramedic was in the ambulance at the time and was left uninjured.

Thankfully no patients were onboard at the time.

The Scottish Ambulance Service has confirmed two of their vehicles were sent to the original emergency.

Shocked motorists and neighbours rushed over to provide assistance.

Police attended and the road was closed whilst the crash scene was cleared.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Ambulance Service said: “We are aware of a one-vehicle road traffic collision involving one of our ambulances on the A76 between Auchinleck and Cumnock last night while en route to an incident.

"The staff member was not injured and no patients were onboard. We would like to thank the members of the public who assisted the staff member. Two ambulances attended the original emergency call.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers received report of a one-vehicle crash involving an ambulance on the A76 at Templeton Roundabout in Auchinleck around 8.40pm on Sunday, February 6, 2022.

"No-one was injured and the road was cleared around 10.05pm.”
