Ambulance on way to emergency in crash with car

An ambulance responding to an emergency call was involved in a crash with a car this morning.

The North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) crew were heading to an incident at a private address when the collision occurred in Hawthorne Road, Litherland, by the junction with Harris Drive.

Merseyside Police said officers were called to the scene at 9.53am after reports of an ambulance having collided with a blue Ford Fiesta car.

A spokeswoman for NWAS confirmed the ambulance did not have a patient in the back at the time.

The service said a second ambulance was deployed to the original incident while a third was sent to the scene of the crash.

Witnesses described seeing two police vans and a police car at the scene.

Merseyside Police said further paramedics had been deployed to the scene after the driver of the Fiesta complained of chest pains.

However NWAS confirmed there were no serious injuries suffered by the driver or ambulance crew and no-one was taken to hospital.

The scene is now clear and the road is open.
