Ambulance crashes with patient on board at busy junction

An ambulance taking a patient to hospital crashed on Sunday evening.

Emergency services were called out to St Helens Linkway at around 6.30pm following reports of an accident involving two vehicles.

The incident happened near to the junction with Elton Head Road.

Ambulance and fire crews attended the scene and a road closure was put in place which has since been removed.

A North West Ambulance Service spokesperson told the ECHO : “On Sunday, an ambulance carrying a patient to hospital was involved in a road collision on St Helens Linkway.

“No one suffered a serious injury. While another ambulance was needed to take the existing casualty to the hospital.”

Merseyside Police confirmed that both drivers suffered minor injuries and received treatment at the scene.

Following the incident police said damage had been caused to road furniture and fuel had leaked on to the road.
