Amber weather warning across Lanarkshire as Storm Ciara continues to cause chaos

Hamilton commuters could be set for another difficult journey home tonight as Storm Ciara continues to batter Lanarkshire.

The amber weather warning is still in place for wind and snow and the Met Office have warned that there is a 70 per cent chance of snowfall after 6pm tonight so make sure you are fully prepared for the travelling in bad weather conditions.

The yellow warning has been in place since Monday, and will remain until midnight on Wednesday.

Monday and Tuesday saw weather experts caution people in Lanarkshire of wind and snow with the warning changing from yellow to amber, and on Wednesday the yellow warning is for snow and ice.

The amber warning means travel delays on roads are likely, stranding some vehicles and passengers and some delays and cancellations to rail travel are likely.

In a statement on its website, the Met Office said: “Snow showers will become frequent and heavy at times through Tuesday afternoon and evening giving accumulations of 10 cm of snow within a few hours, particularly above 150 metre.”

The Met Office have also said that power cuts may occur and other services, such as mobile phone coverage, may be affected.

They are reminding the public to be extra-vigilant as the chance of injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces will increase.
