Amber warning issued by Met Office as Storm Ciara set to hit Ayrshire with blizzards

Parts of Ayrshire have been put on high alert for blizzard conditions this afternoon as Storm Ciara strengthens her grip on the region.

The Met Office has upgraded its warning system to Amber for East Ayrshire, saying 10cm of snow could fall within a few hours.

Strong winds will add to treacherous driving conditions and forecasters have warned there is a "good chance" some rural communities could be cut off.

Power cuts are also likely with mobile phone coverage likely to be affected.

Delays on all transport networks are being predicted, with the warning in place between 2pm and 9pm.
