Amber Rudd and her daughter, journalist Flora Gill, shared a joke about Flora's boyfriend having sex with her mum.
And as if that weren't awkward enough - they also shared it with the entire internet.
Ms Gill posted a joke she'd sent her unnamed boyfriend - in the newly popular format: "What's something you can say during sex that you can also say during..."
And in this case, the other variable was last night's BBC leader's debate.
To Ms Gill's apparent (possibly mock) horror, her squeeze replied: "It was better with your mum."
Ms Gill's mother, Ms Rudd, squared up against Boris Johnson in the final TV debate before the EU referendum in 2016 - when she infamously described Boris Johnson as "not the man you want driving you home at the end of the evening."
Ms Gill tweeted the exchange, adding: "OH MY GOD!! I think I need a new boyfriend..."
And Ms Rudd, if anything, made matters worse by piling in herself.
She said: "Well this is going to make Christmas awkward."
Regular readers will remember this is not the first time Flora and Amber's relaxed conversations have made it to the internet.
Back in October, Ms Gill shared a screenshot on Twitter of a message she received from the man she lost her virginity to.
The man in question describes Gill as the “most accomplishment person” he has ever slept with, in reference to her work as a writer with bylines in publications including GQ and Tatler.
Accompanying the screenshot, Gill wrote that the man "ghosted" her 10 years ago while she was on her gap year, after she lost her virginity to him.
Flora Gill, who is the daughter of Amber Rudd and the late journalist A. A. Gill, tweeted saying she needed help composing the "perfect response" to the private message.
Her mum was quick to reply, tweeting: “Your mother would like to speak to him.”
Rudd’s witty reply received an immediately positive response among Twitter users, accumulating more than 700 likes in under an hour.
Gill replied to her mum saying: “Mum – I’m only kidding! I’ve never had sex! I’m an innocent, young, virgin sex writer!”
