Amber Heard’s legal team has apologised to Johnny Depp and issued a retraction of a statement they made after the estranged couple reached their divorce settlement.
Heard, 30, dismissed her petition for a restraining order against Depp, 50, on Tuesday. The pair reached an out of court settlement of a reported £5.4 million.
After news of the settlement emerged, Heard's lawyers, Samantha F. Spector and Joseph Koenig released a statement saying Heard had been "vindicated in the Court of Public Opinion”.
Spector retracted the statement several hours later and explained it had been made without the knowledge or approval of Heard.
“The statement is untrue and we retract it, without qualification. My assertion that Amber Heard has been vindicated in the court of public opinion is not true. We regret the error and apologise to Johnny Depp,” Spector said in a statement sent to ABC News.
Heard filed for divorce in May on the grounds of irreconcilable differences. The pair released a joint statement via TMZ on Tuesday.
“Our relationship was intensely passionate and at times volatile, but always bound by love," it read. "Neither party has made false accusations for financial gain. There was never any intent of physical or emotional harm. Amber wishes the best for Johnny in the future. Amber will be donating financial proceeds from the divorce to a charity. There will be no further public statements about this matter.“
Representatives for Depp and Heard did not immediately respond to request for comment.
