Amber flood alerts in place across Edinburgh and the Lothians with heavy thunderstorms forecast

Amber flood alerts have been put in place across Edinburgh and the Lothians today, as the region is set to be hit with more bad weather.

The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) issued the alerts yesterday evening (19 July) and they remain in place today.

Heavy showers and thunderstorms in the area will lead to a risk of flooding from surface water, warn SEPA.

Urban areas are particularly at risk and the showers could lead to localised flooding of homes and businesses, and it is also likely to impact the transport network.

Last month flash flooding saw parts of the capital deemed "impassable" when thunderstorms created adverse weather conditions for motorists on the roads.

The Met Office has already issued a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms today with forecasters warning of train delays, power cuts and building damage.

Advice and information is available through Floodline on 0345 9881188. Your Floodline quick dial number for this area is 23200.
