Amber flood alerts in place across Edinburgh and the Lothians

Amber flood alerts have been put in place across Edinburgh and the Lothians over today and tomorrow.

The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) issued the alert, as parts of Scotland are set to be hit with a barrage of wet and miserable weather today .

They have warned that persistent rainfall throughout today and into Thursday will cause river levels to rise.

It is possible that this could lead to localised flooding of homes and businesses and surface water could impact the transport network.

Motorists are being urged to take caution on the roads with surface water making driving conditions potentially dangerous.

The Met Office have already issued a yellow weather warning that covers much of the region, including: Fife, East Lothian, Edinburgh, Midlothian, the Scottish Borders and West Lothian.

Advice and information is available through Floodline on 0345 9881188. Your Floodline quick dial number for this area is 23200.
