Amber flood alerts in place across Edinburgh and the Lothians

Amber flood alerts are in place across Edinburgh and the Lothians.

The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) issued the alert, along with numerous other parts of Scotland affected by the bad weather.

They have warned that heavy showers in the area throughout today could cause "isolate surface water and small watercourse flooding".

This could lead to localised flooding of low-lying land and the transport network, which could cause disruption on the roads.

Motorists are being urged to take caution on the roads with surface water making driving conditions potentially dangerous.

Road Policing Scotland took to Twitter this morning, warning: "Some heavy rain across most of Scotland last night, surface water will no doubt effect your journeys today.

"Please slow down, drive to the conditions, give yourself plenty stopping distance from the car in front, have a safe journey drive safe.
