Ambala: Dainik Bhaskar journalist gets bail after being arrested for error in news report

A day after the Ambala police arrested a Dainik Bhaskar reporter for an error in his news report, a court granted him bail, the Indian Express reported on Sunday.

The journalist, Sunil Brar, had erroneously stated in a report on Thursday that a terror suspect had been arrested in Ambala cantonment instead of a village in the same district. Dainik Bhaskar issued a correction the following day.

However, the police arrested Brar on Friday and filed an FIR against Dainik Bhaskar news editor Sandeep Sharma. The FIR was filed under penal sections related to furnishing false information, intentional insult, and promoting enmity. The police claimed the news report created "false alarm".

On Saturday, Express reported, Brar was produced in front of a judicial magistrate who granted him bail. The court refused the prosecution's request for Brar's "custodial interrogation", while also rejecting a submission by Brar's lawyer that the police had violated norms of arrest.
