Amazonia: The adventure play centre with its own Jungle Express train has reopened

Christmas has come early for families as a popular play centre with its own Jungle Express train reopens.

We revealed back in September how bosses announced the closure of Amazonia , in The Vaults at Bolton Market Place.

Families said they were 'gutted' to lose the attraction, which also features an adventure play area, an 18-hole Lost Valley crazy golf course and play frames for kids of different ages.

MHM Leisure Ltd, which operated the soft play, said it was 'heartbroken' to make the decision and said it had 'been struggling with the sharp increases in the operating costs at the same time as a reduction in customer footfall at the centre'.

But now the business has been taken over and has reopened in time for Christmas - and hosting a Santa's grotto to raise money for charity.

Nikki Wilson Cook, centre manager the Market Place, said: "We are very pleased to announce that after a short closure, Amazonia has now re-opened and families can once again enjoy this amazing attraction when visiting The Vaults.

"It’s an exciting time for Amazonia with some fabulous events lined up, including a free Santa’s grotto which is open on selected dates up until the 22 December. We very much look forward to welcoming families back for some jungle fun."

Jonathan Sangster, general manager of Amazonia, said: " We decided to set up the grotto with support from the landlords, to help raise funds for the children's ward at Bolton Hospital and add to the many activities going on at The Market Place.

"Donations are voluntary and the attraction is free, with chocolate coins for all children, so we're expecting it to be a big hit with families in the region."

A spokesman for the Market Place said they would not discuss the cost of business rates at the centre.
