Amazon worker at Gourock warehouse tests positive for coronavirus

An Amazon worker at the company's huge Gourock warehouse has tested positive for coronavirus.

The online retail giant has confirmed that a staff member at the 300,000 square feet Faulds Park site has been diagnosed with Covid-19 and is now self-isolating at home.

Around 400 staff members work at the warehouse, but no other workers have been sent home following the news of the positive test, the Daily Record reports.

An Amazon spokesman said:  “We are supporting the individual who is now in quarantine.

"Since the early days of this situation, we have worked closely with health authorities to proactively respond, ensuring we continue to serve communities while taking care of our associates and we’re following guidelines from health officials about the operations of our buildings.

"We have implemented proactive measures to protect employees including increased cleaning at all facilities and maintaining social distance.”

It comes as NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde confirmed a cluster of eight positive coronavirus cases have been identified in the region.

Contact tracing has linked a number of businesses to the outbreak, including an Inverclyde pharmacy. An incident management team is now working to provide advice and support.
