Amazon web services, Grindr, Epic Games and other websites and apps have all crashed this afternoon

Amazon Web Services (AWS) appears to have crashed this afternoon, causing major issues and glitches for multiple websites.

The subsidiary of Amazon provides a series of services for online applications - such as on-demand cloud computing platforms and APIs - to individuals, companies, and governments.

It comes as a number of websites experienced issues, with glitches and outages reported by users of the messaging platform Slack, video hosting platform JW Player and internet traffic monitoring service Chartbeat.

Shortly after 2pm, Chartbeat said: "The issues being experienced are related to an outage at our underlying hosting provider (AWS).

"Our team is actively investigating and working to restore service to our customers, and are in touch with our provider as AWS works to resolve the situation on its end.

"Thank you for your patience in the matter. We'll follow up here once we have an update."

Internet problem and outage monitoring website downdector shows a large spike in people reporting problem with AWS at around midday.

Downdector also showed that games website Rocket League, dating app Grindr and Epic Games Store also all saw a spike in reported problems.
