Amazon Shipping Change Charges Customers For a Service That Used to be Free

A new development from Amazon (AMZN) will have an impact on its customers.

Purchasing products from the technology company is an easy way to shop. The covid pandemic accelerated customers' use of the delivery service, but it has created a bit of a headache around return policies.

DON'T MISS: Amazon Makes a Change to Shipping Customers Won't Like

Now, a new fee is in store for customers wanting to return merchandise.

Amazon is beginning to charge $1 for returns made at UPS (UPS).

The fee won't be charged for all UPS returns.

"Amazon is adding the new fee when a customer returns certain orders to a UPS store that could have been returned to a Whole Foods, Kohl's, or Amazon Fresh location that is either closer or within the same distance," Best Life reported. "This will apply to items that are being returned for reasons like 'change of mind' or 'accidental order.'"

For customers who need more information about Amazon's return policies, the following instructions can be found on its website

Items shipped from Amazon.com, including Amazon Warehouse, can be returned within 30 days of delivery, with some exceptions:

For information about products that can't be returned, see Items that Can't be Returned.

While most sellers offer a returns policy equivalent to Amazon's, some seller returns policies may vary. If the seller's listing is eligible for Amazon Prime, it will be subject to the same return policies as items fulfilled by Amazon.com that are outlined on this page. For more information about returning to third-party sellers, see Returns to Third-Party Sellers.

For products purchased from the Amazon Global Store, see Amazon Global Store Returns.

For more information on refund timing and amounts (including partial refunds and restocking fees), see Refunds.

If you have returned an item to Amazon by mistake or included something not intended for Amazon in a return, see Mistaken Returns.
