Amazon secures streaming rights to 'Sex and the City'

Sept. 16--Now folks can mix "Sex and the City" with online shopping.

Amazon announced Wednesday that it has secured the streaming rights to the popular HBO comedy.

All 94 episodes of the groundbreaking series, which starred Sarah Jessica Parker and ran from 1998 to 2004, are now available on Amazon Prime Instant Video to U.S. subscribers of the company's $99-per-year Prime program.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"'Sex and the City' became one of the most popular shows on TV over its six-season run, and we are excited today to give our Prime members access to every episode to watch anytime, anywhere as part of their membership," said Michael Paull, Amazon's vice president of digital video.

The deal to stream "Sex and the City" extends the Internet retailer's pact with HBO that began last year. As part of that agreement, Prime became the exclusive subscription-video-on-demand partner for older HBO original series.

"Sex and the City" was only now added to the fold because of HBO's exclusive TV syndication deal with NBCUniversal's E! cable channel. Streaming rights for the show have now become available.

Amazon also recently added full seasons of HBO's "Entourage" and "Curb Your Enthusiasm" to Prime Instant Video after streaming rights for those shows also became available.
