Amazon Scrapping Fresh Grocery Delivery Service in Some Zip Codes

Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN) is finally making you leave the house.

The company has reportedly decided to slash its Amazon Fresh grocery delivery service in several zip codes starting at the end of November.

The service will continue to operate in a range of cities, but Twitter Inc. (TWTR) users from Pennsylvania to New Jersey to California have received notice from Amazon that their Fresh service is being halted, according to multiple reports.

Amazon Fresh first launched about 10 years ago in the Seattle area and expanded to other cities five years later. Amazon Fresh customers currently pay $14.95 per month in addition to a $99 per year Prime membership to have fresh and frozen foods delivered directly to their doorstep.

The decision to scale back Fresh grocery delivery comes after Amazon's late-summer acquisition of Whole Foods Market. Many experts anticipate its new Whole Foods business will play a major role in Amazon's food and grocery delivery moving forward.

On a conference call with investors last week, Amazon said it would work to better integrate its Prime, Fresh and Whole Foods business operations in the coming months.

Amazon stock rose 0.16% to $1,096 in premarket trading Friday, Nov. 3.
