Amazon's customer service account on Twitter has apologised on the social media platform for stating that Northern Ireland wasn't part of the UK.
The blunder sparked a Twitter meltdown from users as people poked fun at the error, with many joking that 'Amazon had delivered a United Ireland'.
NI resident Chris Jones had been involved in a series of tweets with the help account asking why he wasn't able to watch the Rugby Autumn Nations Cup coverage, despite the fact it was to be available for all UK residents.
Amazon replied to Chris saying: "Thank you for that information. We apologize but upon reviewing your location you're in Northern Ireland. Rugby Autumn Nations Cup coverage is exclusively available to Prime members based in the UK. We don't have the rights to other territories. ^RS"
Acknowledging their mistake, another member of the Amazon team tweeted: "We apologise for the error in our colleague’s response. Our Prime Video subscribers in Northern Ireland and the rest of the UK can access and watch the Rugby Autumn Nations Cup on Prime Video as part of their subscription."
But despite the apology, Twitter had already descended into chaos with many users creating funny memes about the gaffe.
Irish comedian Dara O'Briain tweeted: "Amazon Prime have delivered a United Ireland, and before 6pm on the same day."
Chris said he didn't expect his mum's desire to watch the rugby would descend into such chaos.
He told Belfast Live: "I didn't think my mum wanting to watch the rugby would cause a diplomatic incident, but anything is possible in 2020!"
