Amazon is reportedly set to open a new distribution base in Ireland which would be a boost for Irish shoppers after Brexit.
Bloomberg is reporting that the firm is currently looking at building a logistics centre in Baldonnell, Dublin.
The multi-national company already operates its Amazon Prime delivery warehouse out of Rathcoole.
And the move would see Irish shoppers potentially dodge any custom charges associated with Brexit.
It could however have a negative effect on Irish businesses which were hoping to capitalise on Brexit and increased Amazon prices.
Eoin Clarke, Managing Director of Switcher.ie said: "For Amazon customers worried about new export charges when they shop, this news would be a welcome relief. Not only would it remove customs charges, but it should also speed up delivery times too. It’s also positive news for Irish businesses who sell on Amazon as they would have access to amazon services closer to home.
"This move could, however, be a worry to smaller Irish retailers. If Amazon opens a fulfilment centre in Dublin, their quick delivery times and low prices could eat into independent retailers' share of the market. Consumers should be clued up about where they shop, although convenience is king, small independent Irish owned businesses need our support now more than ever."
