Amazon recruiting for 2,000 seasonal jobs in the North East over the Christmas period

Internet giant Amazon is looking to hire 2,000 additional staff to work at its sites across the North East over the festive period.

The retailer has roles available at fulfilment centres in Darlington, Durham and Gateshead as well as at delivery stations in Newcastle and Gateshead.

The company has announced that it is hiring 20,000 seasonal staff across its UK network of fulfilment centres, sortation centres and delivery stations.

Pay for operations roles starts at a minimum of £10 per hour, rising to £11.10 in some parts of the UK for all full-time, part-time, temporary or seasonal roles.

Amazon's Durham fulfilment centre General Manager Radek Stegbauer said: "“We prepare year-round for the festive season, and we’re excited to have around 2,000 positions available this year in the North East.

"Our seasonal associates play an integral role in helping us deliver an exceptional experience for our customers.

"“We look forward to welcoming back seasonal workers who return year after year to Amazon and to welcome new faces to the team, many of whom will continue on to full-time roles with the company after the festive period.”

Farah Rosil joined Amazon as a seasonal worker in 2019, before becoming a permanent member of the company's team soon after.

Farah said: "Back in 2019, I started my Amazon journey, working as an independent delivery driver for Amazon Flex. I soon moved on to a permanent position at the Amazon fulfilment centre in Durham and I’ve recently transferred to the new fulfilment centre in Gateshead, which is close to where I live.

“There are many benefits at Amazon, including employee discounts, excellent pay, life insurance, an online GP, learning and development opportunities and much more.

"I hope to continue with my Amazon journey to reach my goals, knowing that Amazon will be proud of me due to my determination and drive to succeed.”

Anyone wishing to apply for the roles can do so on Amazon's job website.
