It’s the go-to streaming service for many keen film and TV fans, and now Amazon Prime Video has launched a handy new feature in the UK.
The feature, called Watch Party, lets you watch films and TV programmes at the same time as your friends - perfect if you’re stuck in Lockdown 2.0!
Amazon explained: “There’s a fun new way to enjoy your favourite shows with your favourite people, wherever you are.
“With Watch Parties, you can chat with up to 100 friends while you watch movies and TV shows online together. It’s almost like watching side-by-side in real life — without having to share your popcorn.”
The feature is very similar to Disney+’s GroupWatch feature, which allows lets you enjoy content at the same time as your friends.
And while Netflix doesn't have an official version, there’s a handy extension called Netflix Party.
How to start a Watch Party on Amazon Prime
1. Find a film or TV programme you’d like to watch with your friends on the desktop version of Amazon Prime Video
2. Click on the Watch Party icon on your screen for movies. You’ll find it in the episode list for TV shows.
3. Choose and enter the name you’d like to use while chatting. Create your Watch Party.
4. Share your Watch Party link with up to 100 people. Your friends can join by clicking on their link.
5. Once everyone is ready, start your Watch Party. The host can play, pause, skip, and seek for the group.
Unfortunately, the feature is currently only available on the desktop version of Amazon Prime Video, and is not available on smart TVs or smartphones.
And to be eligible to watch, all members of your group must have a valid Amazon Prime membership.
Amazon added: “Anyone can join a Watch Party as long as they have a valid invite link and an active Prime membership to access eligible titles included with their Prime Membership.”
