Amazon Prime Video's Christmas films from Elf to Love Actually - see full list

Yes it's only November but we're already counting down to Christmas, particularly as there's just so much good stuff to watch on the box.

With its mistletoe and wine, logs on the fire and gifts on the tree - it's a time to rejoice in the good that we see ... on the telly!

There's just something so warm and comforting about gathering the family around to enjoy a seasonal flick, and thanks to Amazon Prime Video there's no shortage of marvellous movies to watch this Yuletide.

From stone cold classics such as Miracle on 34th Street through to more recent outings like The Grinch, there's something here for everyone to unwrap.

If you're streaming on a white Christmas, we very much recommend The Polar Express. This inspiring adventure starring Tom Hanks is guaranteed to make you feel all warm and fuzzy. So why not clamber board the titular locomotive as we join a doubting young boy on his extraordinary train ride to the North Pole? A journey of self-discovery shows him the wonder of life never fades for those who truly believe.

But if laugh-out loud comedy is more your bag, strap yourselves in for Elf - a Christmas classic which sees Buddy ( Will Ferrell ) accidentally transported to the North Pole as a toddler and raised to adulthood among Santa's elves. Unable to shake off the feeling he doesn't fit in, the adult Buddy travels to New York, in full elf uniform, in search of his real father - cynical businessman Walter Hobbs (James Caan). Following a positive DNA test, Walter reluctantly attempts to start a relationship with the childlike Buddy - with increasingly side-splitting results.

Home Alone starring Macaulay Culkin. (Publicity Picture)

For an even more kid-friendly outing, we suggest firing up Home Alone. If you haven't seen this one yet, maybe it's time you should! Bratty youngster Kevin McCallister ( Macaulay Culkin ) is accidentally left behind when his family go on holiday. But his initial excitement at his new-found freedom sours when he realises that two con men plan to rob the McCallister residence, and that he alone must protect the family home.

Bruce Willis in Die Hard - which is set at Christmas, but noticeably light on festive cheer. (Getty Images)

If the previous festive films are a little twee for your tastes, how about Die Hard? Despite much debate, yes this IS a Christmas film! Though it certainly isn't one for the faint hearted. In it we join New York City cop John McClane ( Bruce Willis ) as he attempts to reconcile with his estranged wife on Christmas Eve. He joins her at a holiday party in an LA towerblock, but the festivities are rudely interrupted by a group of terrorists who take over the exclusive high-rise. A tense, taut thriller that's high on action and low on festive cheer. But what a top quality film it is.

Love Actually is a classic feel-good festive rom-com. (Universal Pictures)

Finally in our top five we have Love Actually. Now this is more your traditional festive fare. It boasts nine intertwined stories scrutinising the complexities of the one emotion that connects us all: love. Among the characters explored are David ( Hugh Grant ), the dishy newly-elected British prime minister who falls for a young junior staffer (Martine McCutcheon), Sarah (Laura Linney), a graphic designer whose devotion to her mentally ill brother complicates her love life, and Harry (Alan Rickman), a married man tempted by his attractive new secretary. A feel-good comedy that's guaranteed to gladden the soul.

But that's not all Amazon's dishing up this Christmas. Check this lot out:
