Amazon Prime Video Orders Drama Series 'El Gato' Starring Diego Boneta

New York Amazon facility

Amazon Prime Video has ordered a drama series based on the comic book 'El Gato Negro' by Richard Dominguez. The series, titled 'El Gato,' will be shot in both English and Spanish. Diego Boneta is set to star in the series, with Eric Carrasco adapting the comic book for the screen.

In 'El Gato,' Boneta will portray Frank Guerrero, who returns to Mexico after his father's death and becomes entangled in a family power struggle. He discovers that his inheritance, a seemingly worthless piece of land, is linked to a vigilante's hideout. To survive, Frank must uncover long-held mysteries and his father's ties to a modern terror plot.

Production for the show is scheduled to commence in Mexico this spring. Carrasco will serve as executive producer and co-showrunner alongside Turi Meyer and Alfredo Septie´n. Boneta will executive produce under his Three Amigos production banner, in partnership with Amazon MGM Studios.

'El Gato' is described as a pulp thriller that combines family drama with elements of spies and secret identities. The team behind the series, including Diego Boneta and Eric Carrasco, is excited to collaborate with MGM Television and Prime Video to bring this unique story to life.

Boneta, known for his roles in 'Rock of Ages' and 'Luis Miguel: The Series,' is also involved in other Prime Video projects. The series is expected to offer a fresh take on the superhero genre, exploring the complexities of the protagonist's life and legacy.

Eric Carrasco, with credits on shows like 'Foundation' and 'Supergirl,' has crafted a compelling narrative that promises to captivate audiences. The series will delve into the man behind the mask and the intricate web of relationships he navigates.

'El Gato' marks the second Mexico-based superhero project announced by Prime Video, following the news of a 'The Boys' spinoff set in Mexico. The streaming platform continues to expand its diverse content offerings, catering to a global audience.
