Amazon Prime Video is named the best educational streaming platform

Amazon Prime Video has been named the best platform for educational content.

The top five streaming services in the UK were analysed by comparing price, quality, functionality and type of content available by age and genre.

The research came from Money.co.uk who also looked at BBC iPlayer, Netflix, NowTV and the newly launched Disney+.

It comes after months of lockdown and school closures, which meant students and parents had to rely on online learning, with Amazon coming out on top for its educational content, as well as being the best value for money.

Meanwhile Disney+ is considered the best age appropriate platform for under seven's, while Amazon is best for teenagers.

This is which streaming service was best for each criteria:

  • Best Value for Money: Amazon Prime Video
  • Functionality: BBC iPlayer
  • Content & Genres: Amazon Prime Video
  • Age-appropriate: Disney + for under 7’s and Amazon Prime Video for teenagers
  • Quality: BBC iPlayer

BBC iPlayer topped the list for quality and functionality but lacked in the number of family-friendly titles compared to the other four platforms, with only 108 compared to Amazon's 1162.

Customers can see everything available to kids on the Amazon Prime Video page here, from shows and films to educational TV. The service costs £7.99 per month and includes other benefits like Prime delivery.
