Amazon Prime is looking for Welsh people to star in Emmy-nominated comedy

A new series of Amazon Prime mockumentary, Documentary Now! is making an episode about a Welsh village and is looking for real Welsh residents to star in it.

Created by Saturday Night Live alumni Seth Meyers, also a longtime late-night chat show host, and Bill Hader, the show parodies the UK's current obsession with documentaries, in a subtle mockumentary style. Another co-creator is Welsh director and showrunner of Marvel's Hawkeye series, Rhys Thomas and comic Fred Armisen.

Producers are keen to cast local talent to appear in the show as residents of a fictional village called Llagoelwyn on Wrst and will tell the tale of its unusual popular sport.

There are nine roles up for grabs for a range of age groups, but the creators say they are particularly interested in hearing from those who are fluent in Welsh aged 65+, or are based in North Wales.

Filming is set to start on Monday, February 28 and will run until the end of April, so get those applications in quickly.

Here are the roles available to fill:

  • Garth Davies-Gruffudd (70-79 years old) - a gravel-voiced journalist to be heavily featured throughout the episode.
  • Sior Strawboss (30-40 years old) - A Welsh mountain of a man who is not good with words. The actor must be able to play subtle comedy.
  • Reporter (30-40 years old) - A local, keen reporter desperate to ask the right questions.
  • Sheep farmer (65-80 years old) - An old, Welsh-speaking sheep farmer.
  • Mary Lewis-Ifans (75-85 years old) - Welsh speaking, mother of the protagonist. No nonsense and fiercely loyal.
  • Bryn Evans (65-75 year old) - Former Police Chief in Llagoelwyn on Wrst who took his job very seriously.
  • Local reporter (40-50 years old) - Local Welsh broadcaster. Must be able to deliver line to camera in news reporter style.
  • Judge (55-65 years old) - Local judge, Welsh, formal.
  • Thief (30-40 years old) - A local sheep thief. Must be able to play being knocked unconscious realistically.
