Amazon Japan opens medical supply store

Amazon Japan launched Wednesday a new online store selling medical supplies such as personal protective equipment meant for medical professionals.

The new coronavirus pandemic has created a shortage of medical supplies, and the new website is meant to give medical facilities priority access to such goods. The company created the new page in Amazon Business, a website businesses can use when purchasing items for work, in which medical supply shops sell exclusively for the nation's hospitals, clinics and other medical facilities.

Only businesses selling medical supplies can display their items for sale on the page, not the general public. Items such as high-performance N95 respirator masks, antibacterial sprays and face shields will be available. For the time being, Amazon will not charge sellers a referral fee for selling on the website.

In addition to Japan, the special page is available for healthcare professionals in eight other countries including the United States and Germany.
