Amazon issues urgent Christmas scam warning as all UK customers urged to beware

On the run up to Christmas, many people are now looking for the best deals for last minute gifts.

And with this, comes the risk of being scammed as people may not be thinking about how the deal may be too good to be true.

Scams of course are not isolated to this time of year, but many see a rise during the festive period - and with Amazon being one of the most popular sites to date, it remains a top target for scammers.

Because of this, Amazon have issued an urgent warning to shoppers according to the Mirror, asking their customers to be on high alert with the UK now in the busiest period for online shopping.

The online marketplace has said that the most common scams they see are users getting a message, claiming to be Amazon, telling them that they need to confirm that they have ordered a product before they can ship it.

The scammers will make the text look convincing in the hopes that the person buying the parcel will not think twice about it and provide their username, e-mail, passwords, bank details, and in some cases, install software on devices to complete the order.

Hackers are also known to set up imitation websites which pose as tech support for devices and Amazon services. Customers are being urged to only ever access these services through official channels, such as the iPhone/Android app, or the official Amazon.co.uk website.

Shoppers who receive a message - or similar - are being advised to verify their orders by logging into their Amazon account through the official website and not through any links - no matter how legit it looks.

Users are also being warned to look out for false urgency in the messages such as "act now" or "act fast" with scammers trying to create a sense of panic to persuade users to follow their instructions faster giving them limited time to think about whether or not it could be a scam.
