Amazon issues important message to customers warning them of 'high risk' of electric shock

Amazon has issued an important message to some of its customers warning them of a "high risk" of electric shock in one of their products currently on sale.

One customer received an email informing them that an item they had purchased has been recalled due to the risk of electric shock. The email warned the customer not to use the phone charger designed for iPhones.

The online retailer has invited customers to return the product, named WSCSR Phone Charging Plug MFi Certified 2Pack 1M Phone Cable and 2Pack USB Plug Wall Charger, where they will receive a full refund. The product recall has also been posted to the UK Government website.

Describing the hazard posed, the information on the Gov't website says: "The product presents a high risk of electric shock as there is inadequate creepage and clearance, and potential access to live parts. Electrical insulation between mains/accessible parts may degrade over time due to this inadequate creepage & clearance. There is no insulation under the USB socket where the live conductor runs, and the transformer does not use triple insulated wire."

It adds that the product does not comply with the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016. The product is no longer listed on the Amazon website.
