Amazon investigating harassment claims against Jeffrey Tambor as actor calls allegations 'baseless'

Amazon Studios has reportedly opened an investigation into harassment allegations against "Transparent" star Jeffrey Tambor _ claims the Emmy-winning actor vehemently denied as "baseless."

Deadline reports that the allegations stem from Tambor's former assistant Van Barnes, who worked for him from 2014 to this year, according to a LinkedIn profile.

The transgender Barnes reportedly "implied inappropriate behavior" by the actor in a private Facebook post, prompting the company to launch the investigation.

Tambor, 73, addressed the probe, and strongly denied any misconduct, saying that Barnes' claim left him "appalled and distressed."

"I am aware that a former disgruntled assistant of mine has made a private post implying that I had acted in an improper manner toward her," he said in a statement to Deadline. "I adamantly and vehemently reject and deny any and all implication and allegation that I have ever engaged in any improper behavior toward this person or any others person I have ever worked with. I am appalled and distressed by this baseless allegation."

Tambor has starred as transgender matriarch Maura Pfefferman on "Transparent" since 2014. Though the series is not currently filming, Amazon's investigation is reportedly in the stages of talking to members of the show's production team, as well as the actor himself.

Barnes appeared in one episode of the series, as well as on Caitlyn Jenner's E! reality series "I Am Cait."

The allegations against Tambor come just weeks after the resignation of studio head Roy Price.

Price was suspended and _ shortly after resigned _ from the company after an executive producer on the Amazon series "The Man in the High Castle" accused him of lewdly propositioning her in a taxi in 2015.
