Amazon has changed its delivery system to prioritise certain orders

With most people in the UK now stuck indoors, Amazon is proving a lifeline for many, as people turn to the e-tailer to order everything from food and toiletries, to learning materials, home gym equipment and board games for the family.

And now, in a bid to ensure that the most vulnerable are receiving their orders, Amazon has changed its delivery policy to favour orders containing 'essentials'.

According to the Echo, a message on the retail giant's website has now been shared which advises shoppers that items including food, health and personal care products and items needed to work from home are being given priority to help those in need.

Customers are still able to order from Amazon, but some items which would usually have been available on next day delivery will now take a little longer.

The message reads: "To serve our customers while also helping to ensure the safety of our Associates, we’ve changed our logistics, transportation, supply chain, purchasing, and third-party seller processes to prioritise stocking and delivering items that are a higher priority for our customers.

"These are items such as food, health and personal care products and items needed to work from home.

"As a result, estimated delivery times for some items may be longer than usual at the moment. You can find updated delivery times on the detail page for each item."
