John Henry’s attention to detail at Liverpool explained by his 'next door neighbour'

Jon Champion has revealed the attention to detail owner John Henry pays to Liverpool from across the pond.

Henry, the principal owner of Fenway Sports Group, who bought Liverpool in the autumn of 2010, has enjoyed a huge development at the club both on and off the pitch under his stewardship.

An American businessman, the 71-year-old spends a lot of time in the US, somewhere Champion himself can often be found.

With Henry not being at every Anfield outing or Premier League away trip, he will be making sure he keeps tabs on the club and Jurgen Klopp from afar.

And Champion, speaking as commentator on Liverpool’s clash with Newcastle United on Amazon Prime, offered a small behind-the-scenes insight into the Reds owner.

“I can vouch for John W. Henry’s attention to detail,” Champion said.

“I spend some of my time in the United States and he’s a near neighbour.

"When I went out for a walk on a Sunday afternoon in Project Restart, I’d often hear English football commentary coming over the garden wall from his house.

“I peered over one day seeing him in his pool house, with a bar and a giant TV screen watching Liverpool in action.

“One more thing I should add to that before you add to it, my apartment is considerably smaller than his pool house.

“He knows how to get bank for his buck - the 14th highest net spend in the Premier League to finish first.”
