SEATTLE _ Amazon.com CEO Jeff Bezos on Thursday congratulated President-elect Donald Trump, extending an olive branch to a man who during the campaign criticized both Bezos and his empire and now is bound for the White House. "Congratulations to @realDonaldTrump. I for one give him my most open mind and wish him great success in his service to the country," he wrote on Twitter.
Bezos is also the owner of The Washington Post, which aggressively investigated the Republican candidate during the campaign.
Trump directly mentioned Bezos, his ownership of The Post, and Amazon, highlighting potential antitrust issues with the e-commerce giant.
Those comments, as well as Trump's public stance on free trade, have fostered questions about how Amazon will fare in a geopolitical environment where Trump presides over the world's largest economy and Amazon's home base.
Experts have downplayed any big impacts stemming from decisions made by a Trump administration, but Amazon has lost billions in capitalization since Tuesday. Shares on Thursday were down 5.14 percent at $732.17, at a time when the wider stock market reached record highs, having shed its initial trepidation about a Trump presidency.
