'Amazing' young woman killed in high speed crash gets final wish

The mum of a young woman killed in a high speed crash is ensuring she still gets to fulfil her dream of travelling the world.

Today marks one year since Paige Rice was killed in a high speed crash in the Queensway Tunnel in the early hours of October 17 last year. Paige, 22, was a passenger in an Audi S3, which was being driven at 98mph by her ex-partner Callum Miller, when it crashed head on into a Mercedes taxi inside the tunnel.

Paige, from Birmingham, died hours later in hospital, while Callum, a 27-year-old labourer from Stockport, was kept on life support before his death the following day. An inquest into their deaths, held at Gerard Majella Courthouse in Kirkdale on January 31, heard how the driver of the taxi suffered "life-changing" injuries to his leg and hip in the collision and has undergone extensive surgery.

Since Paige's tragic death, her family have been determined to ensure her legacy lives on. Mum Clare Rice has asked friends, family and strangers to take stickers with Paige's photo on and share them in as many places as possible so she can live her dream of travelling the world.

In a public post on Facebook last month, Clare said: "I lost my daughter Paige in October in a road traffic collision. Paige lived life to its absolute fullest and travelling was something she really wanted to do.

"She’s been to a few places already but I had an idea to get some stickers made with Paige’s face on so friends, family or even strangers could take a sticker and stick them in as many destinations as possible.

"I’ve had some lovely pictures of where you have placed them and now I’m having people message me as they’ve found the stickers. It’s so lovely and I’m really thankful. If anyone would like some please feel free to contact me."

Paying tribute in a community group on the anniversary of Paige's death, one woman said: "Remembering and honouring Paige Rice on this day; one year after this world lost a precious soul.

"While I know nothing can alleviate Paige’s family and friends loss, I do want them to know we are remembering P not only today, but forever. She was a wonderful, amazing woman and an incredibly loving soul, who we were all blessed to have known."

Family and friends met on Sunday to lay pink roses, light tea lights and listen to Paige's favourite music. The family have set up a memory garden where they will be laying flowers and other tributes today in her memory.

The post continued: "‘Paige’s Garden’ has been created in the family home, where friends and family can leave decorated stones and beautiful memorial pieces. Clare also printed off hundreds of photo stickers.

"P is travelling the world like she always wanted to. You can become a part of this by adding Paige Rice.

"She would be so so proud and thankful of you Clare, yourself and Tyler have done such an amazing job of keeping Paige’s legacy alive. Shine Bright Beautiful."
