A singer who reached the finals of Stars in Their Eyes after impersonating Belinda Carlisle has written a song honouring NHS workers.
Elaine Rennie, of Grindon, Sunderland, shot to fame after singing Heaven is a Place on Earth on the popular singing show in 1998.
Now the 49-year-old has written her own song to thank the NHS staff and key workers who are on the frontline battling coronavirus.
She said: "It is dedicated to those who have lost their lives and families who are grieving, and all the NHS staff.
"It is dedicated to all of us going through the together.
"We are going to kickdown, and knockdown this lockdown.
“All the money raised from the song will be donated to the NHS."
As well as writing a song, Elaine is using her singing talents to cheer up residents on Galashiels Road during the coronavirus lockdown.
Elaine decided to sing to people after hitting a low point during lockdown and decided to reach for her microphone on Good Friday.
She said: “I had almost given up on life and was so low during lockdown.
“I lost my mum and other people last year, and I was just really struggling with life.
“I cried for a miracle and the next day I started to sing in my garden.
“A crowd has started coming out and there is a block of flats opposite where people watch me from.
“It has been amazing. I had nothing before, now when I go out people are tooting their horns and watching me.”
