'Amazing support': Popular musician donates £10,000 to homeless charity

A POPULAR musician has donated £10,000 to a homeless charity based in Glasgow.

Paul McManus, who is the drummer of Glasgow band GUN, made the kind gesture to the team at Homeless Project Scotland.

The donation was made to support the group's new winter night shelter which we previously reported they secured back in November after years of campaigning.

Homeless Project Scotland thanked McManus for his "amazing" support.

We previously that the charity, which had been based under the Heilanman's Umbrella on Argyle Street, was forced to move to Broomielaw after claims of “bullying and intimidation” from nearby traders.

They have since been offered a lifeline by Glasgow businessman Barry Cushley, who offered the charity a new home for three months in the basement of a building his company owns on the city's Glassford Street.

Charity boss Colin McInnes previously said: "We are over the moon, this is what we have been working towards since the very start – creating a safe space for the people who need it most.

“This is 100 per cent going to save lives, it will massively reduce the number of deaths on the streets this winter in Glasgow.

“It means the world to us – Mr Cushley has done something no one else in the city has been willing to, he has turned over an area of a building to us to do whatever we need to do to help people."
