Amazing sight as 50 bottlenose dolphins say 'goodbye' to Seahouses boat before lockdown

A pod of dolphins bid a spectacular farewell to Seahouses boat trippers on the last day of sailing before lockdown.

On Wednesday, November 4, the tour guides of Serenity Farne Islands Boat Tours, who explore the famous islands and the Northumberland coastline from their base in Seahouses, were preparing to say goodbye to their boats as a further four-week lockdown was imposed.

Those sailing from Seahouses often spot dolphins, as well as seals and other marine life, playing in the waters around the harbour.

And on Wednesday, it seemed, the dolphins were in an especially "playful" mood.

Video captured on the boat shows the creatures playing around the the vessel, their distinctive fins cresting the waves as they weave back and forth around the bow.

Skipper Andrew Douglas said "What a way to end our final day on the water."

He said in total about 50 bottlenose dolphins were spotted that morning, spread out between 10.30 and 11.30am.

"We followed them South towards Beadnell and then turned to head back," he said.

"Only to be greeted by more going South - so it would have been very rude to ignore them as they were in a very playful mood."

Andrew thanked all those who had taken part in a boat tour since the trips had been allowed to start again this season, and said he hoped it wouldn't be too long before he and his crews were back out on the water again.
