Amazing scenes as hundreds of Geordie revellers belt out Band Aid on packed night in Newcastle

There is absolutely no denying it now - Christmas is very much on the way and nowhere was as packed full of festive cheer than Newcastle on Friday night.

While still a week away from what is typically the busiest and rowdiest night of the year in the Toon - Black Eye Friday - the city centre was packed to the rafters with revellers, many wearing eye catching knitwear in honour of Christmas Jumper Day.

There were big queues to get in Stack on Pilgrim Street as the shipping container hotspot played host to another edition of Kroud Karaoke - the sing along event that has taken off in a big way since making its debut in Newcastle summer.

Kroud's Christmas special promised a sleigh load of seasonal classics and it certainly delivered on that score. And as well as festive favourites from Wham and East 17 there were pop anthems from Backstreet Boys, Spice Girls and of course Oasis' Don't Look Back in Anger which has become something of a Stack anthem.

But there was one song that was in danger of raising the roof off Stack (if there was one!) and that was, without doubt a mass rendition of one of the best Christmas songs ever - Band Aid's Do They Know It's Christmas.

A staggering 35 years have now passed since the world famous fundraiser topped the charts but it's most definitely stood the test of time and, with inflatable microphones held aloft, a capacity crowd turned Stack into Geordie aid, as you can see in the epic scenes in the video above.
