The Amazing Race Australia host Beau Ryan has addressed one of multiple rumours stemming from the show, days after it premiered its newest celebrity edition on Channel 10.
ICYMI, the ninth season of the competition reality show features an array of celebrities this time around — from TikTokers Luke and Sassy Scott to former Big Brother host Gretel Killeen — but the buzziest moments are happening offscreen, as reports of the castmates’ eye-watering salaries continue to swirl.
Earlier this week, there were production whispers that celebrity castmates were copping in excess of $90,000 for their appearance on the show, with Killeen and Melissa Leong apparently on the higher end of the spectrum with a reported $150,000 sum while remaining celebs like Ed Kavalee supposedly pocketed around $100,000.

Now, the rumour mill has churned all the way to Ryan, who was quizzed about the salaries on his radio show, Triple M Breakfast with Beau, Cat and Woodsy. Putting the nail in the proverbial coffin, Ryan — who has fronted the show since 2019 — said he is “not privy to what everyone’s getting paid”.
Still, he offered a few morsels of intel as to the depth of castmates’ pockets, saying reports of The Amazing Race salaries are more inflated than the reality.
“We don’t have to pay them as much as a lot of people think,” Ryan said, adding that rumours around their paydays are a case of “he said, she said”.
Ryan went on to say that some castmates are “contracted at the network” or have a “good relationship” with the head honchos, and therefore “really want to do the show” regardless of the pay.
Later, Ryan touted season nine’s “record numbers” in terms of ratings, before refuting claims this instalment splashed more dosh because it was a celebrity edition.

“A lot of people framed it like it was because of the celebrities, and we spent a lot more money. That’s not true. We didn’t spend more money,” he said.
Ryan wasn’t the only star to debunk the salary reports, with castmate Rob Mills this week denying he was paid a whopping $1.5 million to appear on the show.
The salaries aren’t the only offscreen rumours circling The Amazing Race, with reports also detailing castmates Ant and Dan Middleton’s disqualification during filming over the latter’s alleged comments to Luke and Scott.
The TikTokers and Ryan both addressed the controversy, before Ant and Dan were notably absent by episode two of the new season. They were removed from the title card after episode one.
