Amazing lightning photos from storm that battered Merseyside last night

Scousers reacted in their thousands to last night's awesome storm, which saw the night skies lit up with streaks of lightning and constant rumbling thunder.

There was initially some scepticism when the Met Office yesterday issued an immediate thunderstorm weather warning for Merseyside.

As the warm spring weather continued into the evening, the yellow weather warning was dismissed by many as a false alarm.

But as night fell, the skies looked increasingly threatening until finally the storm broke shortly after 10pm.

These were just some of the reactions we had to it:

Fabby said: "Absolutely loved lying in bed watching this, I haven't seen lightning like that for years. If my old nan was still alive she would have been in the cupboard under the stairs terrified."

Scousemouse2180 said: "I've never in all my life seen lightning like that. Though it was a fantastic experience."

Biopsybob said: "Shame it only lasted for 20 minutes."

Neissa said: "I am normally so scared of storms like this but in all honesty it was amazing to watch from my back door, my poor rabbits however did not like it and I got drenched in the process of bringing them inside."

lpoolgirl said: "Tonight when the thunder started it was hot rain. We are in West Derby village and the sky lit up over St Mary's in the heart of the village, seriously it was brilliant."

StevenRobertson said: "I've been watching it from Manchester! I could see from here it was one of the biggest storms I have ever seen. In fact, I can still see the lightning. Every 10 seconds it looks like."
