Amazing footage shows shark just feet away from admirers while feeding off the Co Cork coast

Amazing footage shows the moment a shark swam just feet away from a group of admirers as it was feeding off the coast of Cork.

The special moment was captured by staff of West Cork Charters who provide offshore angling trips and 'Sea Safaris'.

The group recorded the 3.8 metre basking shark feeding close to the shore near Clonakilty on Monday morning, CorkBeo.ie reports.

The video was taken just days after the group caught the first blue sharks of 2020 in Irish waters as part of the Irish shark tagging programme.

The sharks were measured, tagged and released with the information sent in to help with monitoring and protecting the shark species.

During the COVID-19 lockdown, wildlife has flourished in the empty spaces left in our cities and countryside.

Conor O'Reilly from Shannonvale, Clonakilty on the left caught the shark and was onboard Silver Dawn of West Cork Charters (West Cork Charters)

And numerous species have been spotted taking over new space in Irish waters.

Dolphins, otters, and seals have been spotted in Cork Harbour and even high up the Lee in to the city.

And in Dublin, deer have been spotted trotting through its streets as locals watched on in awe.

If you capture any moments with wildlife you can send it to us through our Facebook page or by emailing Andrew.Byrne@IrishMirror.ie.
